Get to Know Me: You Hear Something Fall in the Middle of the Night

I’m a member of an author/book reader facebook group, and the admins ask great questions. I decided to turn some of the questions into a “get to know me” series. I would also love to hear your answers to the questions posed in the series. Thanks Helen for asking such fun questions!

What do you do when you hear something fall in the middle of the night, and your are in bed asleep?

I’ve been a single mom for 15 years now, so it’s just me to check things out. I can usually tell if it can be ignored, and I will just go back to sleep.

However, one night many years ago, I heard this loud cracking (like glass) sound. I went to the kitchen thinking something had fallen. I could not find what it was until the next morning when I walked into the bathroom. The glass surrounding the shower had shattered. Never knew what made it happen …

What about you?

Camilla

What is Your Favorite Season and Why

I love them all equally, for the change each brings. Fall as it relates to winding down, letting go. Winter as it relates to being sedentary, hibernating. Spring as it relates to the awakening, birth of the new. Summer for the brightness and joy.

What about you?

Get to Know Me: Lending Books to Friends and Family

I’m a member of an author/book reader facebook group, and the admins ask great questions. I decided to turn some of the questions into a “get to know me” series. I would also love to hear your answers to the questions posed in the series. Thanks Helen for asking such fun questions!

Do you lend your books to friends and family? Why or why not?

Rather than lend books, I will just gift the book to a friend. If in conversation they have mentioned they want to read such and such book, and I have it and I’ve read it, I will give it to them. If I want to read it again, I’ll buy another or get it from the library.

I used to hoard things, books, paperwork, you name it. After my divorce in 2007, I decided I didn’t want to be so attached to things, to be more minimalist. I had what I called The Great Purge! My kids were little at that time, and they would tell anyone who would listen that their mom was giving away all of our stuff! Hahaha! It was incredibly freeing. I even wrote a blog post about it! It was that powerful!

Get to Know Me – How Handy Are You When It Comes to Fixing Things?

I’m a member of an author/book reader facebook group, and the admins ask great questions. I decided to turn some of the questions into a “get to know me” series. I would also love to hear your answers to the questions posed in the series. Thanks Helen for asking such fun questions!

How handy are you when it comes to fixing things?

I’m actually pretty good at it. Unless it’s a huge job. I’m like an improvising MacGyver with long blond hair! If I don’t have what’s needed to fix it, I figure out a way. I’ve been a single parent for the last 15 years, so it was a necessity to figure things out. Duct tape is amazing! I’ve duct taped my driver’s side mirror on, and used the tape in the first aid kit in the car to tape my brake light on! Hahaha!!

I crack myself up! Seriously, the things I have created and fixed over these past 15 years blows my mind. I am a ninja improviser, I will make things work with what I have. Now that I have some wiggle room financially, I will sometimes stop and think, “Why are you still using this, or doing it this way? You can afford to buy whatever is.” However, the improvising part of my brain is deeply entrenched now, after 15 years. I like that about myself. At least my kids are impressed by the things I’ve done and continue to do. Hahaha!!

What about you, how handy are you when it comes to fixing things?
