Get to Know Me: Do They Read Your Books?

I’m a member of an author/book reader facebook group, and the admins ask great questions. I decided to turn some of the questions into a “get to know me” series. I would also love to hear your answers to the questions posed in the series. Thanks Helen for asking such fun questions!

Do family and friends, spouse read your books?

My kids have read my first book (memoir), many times when they were younger. I think they liked reading about themselves!

I was divorced when I wrote it, so I don’t know if my ex read it, but my ex mother-in-law did (we are still friends). He did tell me that he should get half of any money I make from it, as for some reason he thought he had contributed money to its publication. Actually, everyone donated their time and talents to making the book happen, the cover, editing, book layout, proof-reading, etc.

I’ve had many friends and acquaintances read all four of our books, which has been incredibly encouraging.

What’s the worst thing you ever did as a child and what was your punishment?

The worst things I did, were done to myself.

When I was 5 or 6, I stuck a lil red berry up my nose. Why? I have no idea. Punishment: I stuck a freakin’ berry up my nose! Hahaha!

When I was 7 or 8, I got chewing gum stuck in my very long hair. My mom was so mad, she just cut all my hair off, instead of trying to get it out.

Get to Know Me: The Soundtrack of My Life

Which three songs would be the first picks in the soundtrack of your life – not necessarily your favourites but the most relevant.

My tastes in music are all over the place, depending on my mood, and what I’m doing, whether I’m driving, writing, or dancing. 😂

However, if we’re calling it The Soundtrack of Camilla’s Life, top 7 would be (one for each decade). Each to represent what that decade meant to/for me. I had to do this quick. If I put too much thought into it, we’d have several soundtracks!

1970: We Are Family by Sister Sledge

1980: Come on Eileen by Dexys Midnight Runners

1990: Girls Just Want To Have by Cyndi Lauper

2000: Tainted Love by Soft Cell

Get to Know Me: An Event That Changed Everything

I’m a member of an author/book reader facebook group, and the admins ask great questions. I decided to turn some of the questions into a “get to know me” series. I would also love to hear your answers to the questions posed in the series. Thanks Helen for asking such fun questions!

Can you pin-point an event in your life that changed everything?

My life has been a collection of crossroads. The first major one, and perhaps having an affect on all others: My parents had a nasty split and divorce when I was 10 years old. It was a complete mess, with my mom fleeing with us out of state two times.

The first time my mom’s family on one side of my younger brother and I, my dad’s family on the other side, tugging our arms. The second time, my dad showing up to collect my brother and I from school, heading straight to the airport and back to his home state. Those were some of he worst years of my young life.

I have had a string of unhealthy relationships with men. That only stopped when I quit having any romantic relationships after my divorce in 2007. There’s another crossroads. I’ve not dated since then.

What song lyrics have you misheard?

When I was very young, for the longest time, I thought it was “Hang on Snoopy” instead of “Hang on Sloopy” …. There have been many. This is the earliest one I remember. ….

What’s one thing that can instantly make your day better?

A hug from my son, when either of my kids is happy and joyful, sunshine, a walk, music, birdsong, cute animal videos, receiving a wonderful review or feedback for any of our books.

Get to Know Me: Imaginary Friends

Did you have an imaginary friend as a child?

I didn’t have an imaginary friend, but my cousins and I would pretend the bottom of the deep end of the pool (9 ft) was our house. We’d swim to the bottom, sit in different spots, pretend we were doing things. Wild to think about now. We spent a lot of time swimming, so we could hold our breath a decent amount of time.

When my 19 year old special needs daughter was younger, she used to have an imaginary twin. When she would get admonished for something, she would always say, it wasn’t me. That was the other Lillian. 🤣 😂

She also used to sleep walk. She woke me up one night as she was in my closet, having a conversation with someone. That happened several times throughout her younger years.

Get to Know Me: What Was Your First Job?

What was your first job?

My first proper job was at 15 years old as a grocery checker at Jitney Jungle in Jackson, Mississippi. I was eventually promoted to bookkeeper/front end manager before moving out of state at 19 years old.

Before that, all the grandkids were required to help our pappaw in his yard mowing business. He paid us, and it was hard work in that Mississippi humidity and heat! All the grandkids were required to help in the garden, too. We got paid for that by the food that our mammaw canned and cooked.

Get to Know Me: Choose Anything for a Day

I’m a member of an author/book reader facebook group, and the admins ask great questions. I decided to turn some of the questions into a “get to know me” series. I would also love to hear your answers to the questions posed in the series. Thanks Helen for asking such fun questions!

If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be?

My answer would change daily, but right now, I’d like to snap my fingers, having all paper work magically completed, all decisions made in my and my family’s favor, and then spend the day getting a full body massage, soaking in an hot epsom salt bath, and having someone fix all of my meals, vegan and to my liking. In short, I would love for someone to dote over me and spoil me.

Get to Know Me: Clones

What would a world populated with clones of you be like?

The walking trails would be full of ME! Coffee farmers would have a hard time keeping up. There’d be lots of dancing, dancing in the streets even. Things would be messy, with piles of paperwork stacked in all the corners, way too much procrastination, loads of dark chocolate eaten, much hugging of trees, and probably way too much burping of words and sentences (see previous post about super powers … 😂🤣).
