Using Technology and Social Networking as Communication Tools
Camilla Downs, President of the Turning Views Foundation and Turning Views Inc, will present a session for affected individuals and family members at the annual Chromosome 18 Registry and Research Society Conference in July 2011 (July 19-24th). Attendees will explore using smart phones as a communication tool and use of AAC apps for smart phones as a means of communication for those with speech impediments or who are nonverbal. Attendees will also explore the safe use of social networking sites and blogging as a way for those with speech impediments to stay connected and communicate with family and friends. All participants will leave with a clear idea of how they or their loved one can use these tools and next steps to take when they return home.

“Exploration and Application of Career Empowerment Skills”
Camilla Downs, President of the Turning Views Foundation, will co-facilitate a break out session for affected young adults and teens at the annual Chromosome 18 Registry and Research Society Conference in July 2011 (July 19-24th). Participants will be engaged in ongoing transition and vocational assessment while learning career empowerment skills. Camilla Downs, Social Media Professional and Entrepreneur and Catherine Burzio, Professional Vocational Evaluator will facilitate youth and young adult discussion around job readiness, career exploration and potential entrepreneurial paths. Interactive large group sessions and personal small group dialog will provide many opportunities for exploration and application. All participants will leave with an action plan to continue when they return home.
