Life Made Easier.
What is Special Needs Life Coaching?
Life coaching has been around for a long time. A Special Needs Life Coach has been specifically trained to support families who have a family member with special needs and the individual with special needs as well. A Special Needs Life Coach functions as an extension of the family as many families simply cannot do the work alone. The coach and the family decide what role the coach will play in the partnership. A Special Needs Life Coach is dedicated to improving life quality for persons with special needs and developmental disabilities and their families.
One thing to remember is that a Special Needs Life Coach is not a therapist, teacher or counselor. The involvement with a family is usually specific in nature and designed to meet a particular goal and action plan. A Special Needs Life Coach can assist with research, problem solving, connect the family with resources and create and facilitate a Circle of Support.
How You and Your Family Will Benefit From Working With A Certified Special Needs Life Coach
When we became parents, we didn’t receive a user manual with that beautiful little bundle of joy in our arms. We certainly didn’t receive a “How to Live Your Life and Raise Your Child with Special Needs” manual either when we received this news.
Many times this can be overwhelming. Most of us did not imagine becoming a parent and being directly responsible for our child for theirs and our entire life. Many of us like to think we can do this by ourselves and that people will think less of us if we ask for help. Asking for help is a sign of strength.
As your Special Needs Life Coach I will help you with solutions, options and resources. I will help you to focus and provide you with information to make sound decisions.
You may not be clear about why you want to use my services, you just know you need help. I will help you gain clarity.
If you want to form a partnership with someone who is an extension of your family, someone who inspires you and enriches your life, someone who can do the “digging” for you; then working with a Special Needs Life Coach will be a positive experience for you.
Does Any Of This Sound Familiar?
Do you crave simplicity?
Do you feel overwhelmed with what step to take next?
Are you stressed out all the time?
Do you feel you, your family or your family member with special needs has untapped potential?
Do you feel inadequate when at doctor’s appointments or in IEP meetings?
Do you have an overflowing to do list of items to look into or research?
Is your greatest worry and fear what will happen to your child when you are no longer here?
If you answered yes to any or all of these questions I am here to help you whenever you are ready.
Why This Special Needs Life Coach?
Inspiring Families and Individuals with Special Needs to SOAR . . . By Providing and Defining Solutions, Opportunities, Abilities and Resources
My name is Camilla Downs and I am a certified Special Needs Life Coach. I’m also a certified presenter and trainer for Proloquo2Go, a communication app for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch and a published author. I am a parent to a child with special needs and I get it.
I know first hand the stress and confusion we experience at times and can assist with decreasing both.
I understand the hectic schedules we lead. Our meetings can be scheduled to meet your time constraints via in person, over the telephone or Skype.
I’m a “digger”. I dig and dig and dig for answers and solutions.
I understand the need for simplicity. I will use my experience as the parent of a child with special needs, my ten years experience as a Paralegal, my four years experience as a Social Media Consultant and my training as a Special Needs Life Coach to define and provide solutions, opportunities, abilities and resources.
If you or your family feel stuck, we will dig deeper by understanding your values, beliefs and thought processes.
I will assist you in getting organized. We gain clarity and confidence at doctor’s appointments and when applying for services when we have our child’s information organized.
I offer a 30 minute free consultation via phone, Skype or in my office to determine if we are a right fit for one another.
Certain agencies and nonprofits will assist you in paying for my services or pay for my services directly.
I offer options for assistance on a “project” basis vs monthly coaching {for example: Creation of a Life Quality Plan or Creation of a Circle of Support}.
A plan can be tailored to meet your current financial situation.
I work with families to create and facilitate a Circle of Support for the family member with special needs and create a Life Quality Plan using person centered planning.
I offer one to one coaching, online or in person, and also group coaching online.
If we decide you or your family would benefit, together we work on writing and conducting goal setting, action plans with weekly check ins.
Please remember I am not a counselor or therapist, but I can work closely with you and your therapist should that be the case.
If you want to know more or hire me, send me an email and let’s schedule a 30 minute free consultation to chat.
